NYCHA Executive David Rohde Recognized as a ‘Notable General Counsel’

NYCHA’s Executive Vice President (EVP) for Legal Affairs and General Counsel David Rohde has been named among the city’s 2024 Notable General Counsels by Crain’s New York Business.

The publication’s annual list of Notable General Counsels celebrates the lawyers who are considered vital to New York City’s business community. Mr. Rohde, who was appointed to his position in July 2023 after serving as Interim General Counsel, was recognized by Crain’s as one of 35 honorees who are “steering organizations through regulatory landscapes and supporting marginalized groups.”

As EVP and General Counsel, Mr. Rohde oversees more than 300 attorneys and staff and a $50 million departmental budget. Crain’s noted that he was critical to negotiations with State government in the development and implementation of a process to allow NYCHA residents to apply for the state’s Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP). The program will provide significant funding to help thousands of NYCHA households with COVID-related arrears pay their rent.

Mr. Rohde said he is both humbled and grateful for the recognition from Crain’s and is proud to share the honor with his Law Department colleagues.

“I am privileged to lead efforts that touch upon every aspect of NYCHA’s daily life as we strive to deliver creative legal solutions to benefit our residents,” he said. “Our talented team of attorneys and support staff bring a wide range of experience and expertise to their collaborative work with our clients. The variety and volume of all we address, and all whom we help, means we are constantly learning and growing as professionals and individuals, which I find to be one of the most important and rewarding aspects of my job.”

Mr. Rohde’s work as the Authority’s General Counsel was previously commended when he received the New York City Law Department’s Dorothy Marie Miner Award for Outstanding Service in December.

In addition to his service to the NYCHA community, Mr. Rohde helps with fundraising efforts for the development of scholarships and mentoring programs for law students at New York Law School. He also serves as a board member of Cancer ABCs, a cancer education and awareness program.

Prior to joining NYCHA as Managing Attorney in 2020, Mr. Rohde most recently served as the Senior Director for Consulting Services at Epiq Systems, a leading provider of legal process outsourcing, discovery services, and consulting.
