NYCHA Skyliners Close Out 2023 Season in League Semifinals

The NYCHA Skyliners softball team finished the 2023 season with another strong run toward the New York City Government Softball League title.

Making an impressive turnaround from its 7-6 regular season record last year, the employee team rose to second place in the 2023 league standings with a 13-2 record.

After a walk-off victory against the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) team in the playoffs, the Skyliners’ bid for their first league championship fell short in a semifinal loss to the FDNY squad. NYCHA’s playoff loss last season also came at the hands of the FDNY in the quarterfinals.

“It was disappointing to be knocked out in the semis, but we’re a competitive team and will be aiming for another playoff run next season,” said player Emma Vitaliano, Director of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs.

Centerfielder Earl Savage noted that the team’s goal each season is “to get this first title for housing.” Still, the Bronx Property Maintenance Supervisor said the Skyliners had some memorable games this season, including a few comeback victories in the last inning.

Ms. Vitaliano also highlighted a comeback win against the Department of Finance.

“It was a strong season for the Skyliners; there were a few new additions to the team that ended up being key contributors, and it was great to be back for another season with returning teammates,” she said. “We had some pretty big wins and a lot of fun putting up runs.”
