Transforming and Strengthening NYCHA

As part of NYCHA’s efforts to strengthen our organization and improve service to residents, several structural improvements and new leadership appointments are underway across the Authority.

In line with our Transformation Plan, we are restructuring our Operations and other divisions to create more connections among our teams, expand subject-matter expertise, and evolve and improve as an organization — enhancements that will enable us to better serve residents. A summary of some of the changes is below, and you’ll receive emails in the near future with more details about these updates, as well as new appointments in other divisions.

Operations Division

To streamline operations, Property Management Operations now consists of the Public Housing Operations Borough Vice Presidents, the new HUD Inspections Department, and the Healthy Homes portfolios. In addition, we created a Quality Assurance, Safety, and Technical Programs portfolio to bridge the work of the Quality Assurance, Technical Resources, Public Safety, and Planning and Project Management departments. These changes complement the recent restructuring of the Community Engagement and Partnerships department to Resident Services, Partnerships, and Initiatives to better highlight what each team does in their area of resident engagement.

Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

We appointed a new Vice President of the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI). The former Department of Equal Opportunity’s mission was expanded: ODEI will continue to carry out Equal Employment Opportunity and Fair Housing investigative functions but will also enhance and develop other areas related to training and outreach; workforce hiring data; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs; and best practices designed to promote awareness of different cultural and heritage groups. ODEI can be reached by calling (212) 306-4468, emailing odei@nycha.nyc.gov, or scheduling an appointment in person at 90 Church Street, 6th floor.

NYCHA will continue to strengthen and transform, thanks to the contributions of employees from across the Authority. Stay tuned for additional information about our progress…
