Supply Management and Procurement Gets National Award for Service Excellence

NYCHA’s Supply Management and Procurement Department has been recognized by a national organization for its achievements in the area of government procurement.

In early October, the department was awarded the 2022 Annual Achievement of Excellence in Procurement from the National Procurement Institute, Inc. The award, which recognizes agencies that demonstrate a commitment to procurement excellence, was presented during the institute’s 27th Annual Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Gala in Atlanta.

The award program provides benchmarks for public procurement best practices and celebrates the work of procurement organizations that “embrace innovation, professionalism, productivity, leadership, and e-procurement.” NYCHA Procurement was one of 171 successful applicants across the U.S. and Canada this year.

“This is a significant milestone. We are proud of having received the acknowledgement of the best practices we have implemented as part of NYCHA’s transformation, but there is still a tremendous amount of work to do,” Chief Procurement Officer Sergio Paneque said. “Employing these best practices, we are working with NYCHA departments to improve vendor performance and resident engagement in the procurement process, and also focusing on technology optimization efforts to improve the way we serve our residents.”

NYCHA’s Procurement Department sources and purchases materials, supplies, equipment, and services (including construction) as needed, in compliance with all of the Authority’s policies and procedures. The department ensures that the bidding, authorization, and awarding of contracts for such resources at NYCHA are procured efficiently, effectively, and at the most favorable price.
