Refurbished Basketball Court Opens for Play at Patterson Houses

A newly upgraded basketball court dubbed by residents as “Patterson Square Garden” recently made its debut at Patterson Houses in the Bronx.

The court located near East 143rd Street received improvements such as new hoops, seating, surfacing, court markings, and painting. The approximately $500,000 project was funded by City Councilwoman Diana Ayala.

The court renovations were designed with input from Patterson Houses residents, led by Resident Association President Patricia Simpson, through a collaboration with property managers and other stakeholders. The work was managed by NYCHA’s Capital Projects Division, while Empire Control Abatement, Inc. served as the project contractor.

The new recreation space and others that have recently opened across NYCHA provide opportunities for youth to stay active and safe during the warmer months.
