Providing Excellent Service to Residents

We’re periodically featuring the hardworking staff members who provide excellent service to residents and exemplify NYCHA’s core values. In this installment, meet John Kolomechuk, Housing Manager in the Customer Operations Department:

“In my 25-plus years at NYCHA, I have served as a housing assistant, assistant manager, development manager, and borough manager. I’m now a housing manager in the Customer Operations Department. My team communicates with all of NYCHA’s stakeholders – residents, employees, elected officials, and the general public – to support our mission of providing affordable housing and connecting residents to opportunity.

“The Customer Operations team responds to 10,000-plus inquiries every year. I ensure that each inquiry I work on is handled to our residents’ satisfaction. It gives me great pleasure to speak with our residents daily and resolve their concerns. Many times, they just want to be heard and know that someone is working on their behalf. Also, I often become a point of contact for follow-up concerns.

“It’s important to listen to residents – serving them is our most important goal. I’m always pleased when a resident tells me how my assistance has brought about positive results for them. That brings to mind a quotation from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’

“I joined NYCHA’s Employee Engagement Committee to learn more about how we are all working toward the same goals at NYCHA and to gain a better understanding of my colleagues’ perspective. It’s been a wonderful opportunity to speak with my colleagues about changes at the Authority and the direction we’re headed.”
