NYCHA CEO Honored with Salvadori Center’s Public Service Award

NYCHA Chief Executive Officer Lisa Bova-Hiatt was honored with the Salvadori Center’s 2024 Award for Public Service at the non-profit organization’s annual benefit on May 1.

Established in 1987, the Salvadori program teaches science, technology, engineering, arts/architecture, and math (STEAM) to youth through a collaborative, hands-on, project-based approach that uses the built environment – buildings, bridges, parks, and communities – to show students how STEAM is relevant to their lives.

NYCHA has been partnering with Salvadori for over 15 years to support out-of-school learning for young residents, having begun its partnership at Sotomayor Houses and South Beach Houses. Today, Salvadori currently serves a total of nine NYCHA sites, enriching lives and providing valuable skills and transformative future career paths for students from kindergarten through 12th grade.

“With more than 25 years of experience in City and State public service – including leading the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery after Hurricane Sandy – Lisa brings passion and knowledge of how to get things done in government and improve the quality of life for NYCHA residents,” Salvadori’s Executive Director Trenton Price said at the ceremony, noting Ms. Bova-Hiatt’s commitment to the partnership.

“We are thrilled to acknowledge her leadership and achievements.”

Ms. Bova-Hiatt experienced the Salvadori program first-hand during a recent trip to the Drew Hamilton Community Center, where students learned about building skyscrapers as part of this spring’s after-school programming, which is supported by City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams.
