Meet LaToya Ramseur, Assistant Director of Public Housing Tenancy Operations
LaToya Ramseur began her career at NYCHA in 2010 working at the Customer Contact Center in Long Island City as a Customer Information Representative and is now the Assistant Director of the Conversion Unit in Public Housing Tenancy Operations. No matter her job title, her favorite work at the Authority has always been helping residents.
In her current role, Ms. Ramseur is enjoying her unit’s mission of assisting property management staff at developments undergoing PACT and Trust conversions, including ensuring PACT partners and NYCHA’s Real Estate Development, Law, and Leased Housing departments are aware of all tenancy-related issues prior to the conversion.
“We ensure that all parties know who is in each apartment,” Ms. Ramseur explained. “Each household must sign a PACT lease in order to convert through PACT and receive Project-Based Section 8.”
Ms. Ramseur believes that helping to ensure the tenancy component of the PACT conversion process is done seamlessly is another way she gets to help residents. “What I love about this unit is that I feel converting through RAD/PACT is beneficial to residents. I have worked in the field as a Housing Manager in a large development; I understand the many obstacles that we face to get work done. The PACT partners are able to make major upgrades to the developments and help residents live in a healthier environment. I visited a development that converted through PACT, and the building was beautiful on the outside and the inside. During the visit we spoke with some of the residents, along with the resident association president – they were all so excited about the work that was completed as well as the new property management team.”
Her path from Customer Information Representative to Assistant Director was reached through civil service exams and knowing that there are endless opportunities to advance in her career.
“One thing with NYCHA, there’s always room to grow here,” Ms. Ramseur said. “Coming from the call center and then working in the developments, if you want to move up, you can. You can sit down with your manager/supervisor and talk about what you’d like to do, you can take as many exams as you would like – as well as receiving training through Learning and Development, the Citywide Training Center, etc.”
Ms. Ramseur said she always tells people, “Take the exams because you never know what’s going to happen or the direction the agency is going in.”
Ms. Ramseur said she sees herself continuing to advance at NYCHA: “I look forward to assisting residents and my colleagues. I know I’m going to do a good job at my job regardless of what that job is. I also know that there is always more that can be done, and I want to tap into that.”
Her supervisors have highlighted her dedication to her work: “LaToya clearly cares deeply about her work, is very knowledgeable, and is very responsive to whatever needs to get done,” Patricia Zafiriadis, Vice President of Public Housing Tenancy Operations, said.
Senior Vice President of Public Housing Tenancy Operations Sylvia Aude said, “LaToya’s commitment to supporting NYCHA’s goals shines through in everything she does. From her early days as a customer service representative to her current role facilitating the PACT conversion process, she has approached each position with professionalism and a drive to get things done.”
