Learn More About NYCHA’s “A Blueprint for Change” Ideas

Dear Colleagues,

This summer,  NYCHA released A Blueprint for Change, a set of ideas for improving residents’ home while protecting their rights. At the core of this work are NYCHA’s efforts to deliver better services to residents in a range of critical areas, transform as an organization, and bring our buildings the capital investment they need to support the generations of New Yorkers to come.

Blueprint introduces an innovative way to invest in and preserve all of the Authority’s buildings and apartments – a Public Housing Preservation Trust. Once created, a Public Trust would help bring much-needed repairs and renovations to 110,000 NYCHA apartments, complementing the efforts to rehabilitate 62,000 apartments through PACT/RAD. For the first time in many decades, NYCHA will have a comprehensive plan to fix every building.

With the Public Trust model, NYCHA staff will continue to manage and maintain the properties, and no staff will lose their jobs. To learn more about the Public Trust and NYCHA’s transformation efforts, please read the FAQs here. You can also send an email to transform@nycha.nyc.gov with any questions.

This is just the start of the conversation about these ideas, and we will continue to engage residents, staff, and other stakeholders so we can develop these ideas and make progress together.

Sincerely,

Greg Russ, Chair & CEO
