Edenwald Staff Celebrate PACT Progress, Employee Retirement

NYCHA staff at Edenwald Houses, the largest development in the Bronx, gathered for some recent causes for celebration.

Along with the closing of financing for the latest Permanent Affordability Commitment Together (PACT) modernization project at the end of June, Supervisor of Housing Caretakers Nelson Andrades kicked off his retirement after 27 years of service.

With much to rejoice in at Edenwald, both current and former staff got together to mark the PACT progress and ceremoniously send off a longtime colleague, Mr. Andrades, who retired on June 30.

“For me it was full circle,” Bronx Neighborhood Administrator Theresa Bethea said of the celebration with Edenwald employees. “I was the superintendent there when the discussion of PACT began in NYCHA, and I was there as the administrator to see the closing.”

Thanks to an infusion of $783 million in capital funding, the PACT partner team is set to begin the work of fully rehabilitating Edenwald Houses with comprehensive repairs for nearly 5,000 residents living across 2,035 apartments. Edenwald’s scope of rehabilitation will address the 20-year capital needs of the property while prioritizing resident preferences and investments towards healthy and efficient buildings within a resilient campus.
