An Honor for All
As part of its “International Day of Older Persons” celebration on October 1, CABS Homecare honored several members of the community who work hard to improve the quality of life for seniors in our city. One of those recognized at the ceremony in Brooklyn was one of NYCHA’s own: Karen Patterson, Deputy Director of the Family Partnerships Department.
Through its collaboration with the Family Partnerships Department, CABS Homecare has been supporting elderly residents and people with disabilities at NYCHA developments in all five boroughs since 2017.
CABS Homecare CEO Sherly Demosthenes-Atkinson and her team selected Ms. Patterson for the honor based on the positive impact she’s made for seniors and residents with disabilities, her devotion to the larger community, and the inspiration and guidance she offers to her colleagues. The non-profit, which is based in Brooklyn, also highlighted Ms. Patterson’s role in bringing the organization on as a “Zone Partner” with the Family Partnerships Department.
“When I first heard that I would be honored by one of our Zone Partners, I was shocked,” Ms. Patterson remarked. “That’s because this is the work that we at NYCHA do every day – connecting residents with the organizations who can provide them the support they need. NYCHA residents deserve the best care and opportunities out there, and it’s our job to ensure they can access them. I am so humbled, because an honor for one of us is an honor for all of us!”
