‘Tis the Season for the Citywide Council of Presidents

NYCHA’s Citywide Council of Presidents (CCOP) hosted a holiday meet-and-greet event for its executive board members at the Johnson Community Center in Manhattan on December 21 to celebrate the holiday season, welcome new members, and provide updates on the various projects and partnerships supported by the Public Housing Community Fund.

The CCOP works to improve the quality of life for public housing residents by bringing together resident association presidents from 10 districts: Bronx North, Bronx South, Brooklyn East, Brooklyn South, Brooklyn West, Manhattan North, Manhattan South, Queens North, Queens South, and Staten Island. While every one of NYCHA’s 200-plus resident association (RA) presidents is automatically a member of the CCOP, the CCOP’s 10 Executive Board seats are elected positions for which an RA president must run. The CCOP serves as a voice for NYCHA residents, sharing the community’s perspectives, insights, and concerns with the Authority’s staff.

The current members of the CCOP Executive Board are:

  • Chair Daniel Barber (Jackson Houses)
  • 1st Vice Chair Barbara McFadden (Nostrand Houses)
  • 2nd Vice Chair Ethel Velez (Johnson Houses)
  • Secretary Tyree Stanback (Lafayette Gardens Houses)
  • Corresponding Secretary Tamika Williams (Pomonok Houses)
  • Treasurer Lilithe Lozano (Parkside Houses)
  • Financial Secretary Aixa Torres (Smith Houses)
  • Business Agent Reginald Bowman (Seth Low Houses)
  • 1st Sergeant at Arms Brenda “Kiko” Charles (Mariners Harbor Houses)

The CCOP Executive Board usually meets online on a monthly basis, but the December 21 meeting was a special, in-person occasion. Organized by NYCHA Executive Vice President Ukah Busgith and her Resident Services, Partnerships, and Initiatives (RSPI) team, the event included a catered dinner and plenty of holiday cheer – courtesy of the Public Housing Community Fund – as well as a special presentation from the Fund’s Executive Director Alex Zablocki.
