September Is “NextGen Recert Month”

Online annual recertificationCheck this NextGen NYCHA goal off the list: As of September 1, every NYCHA resident has the option to complete their annual recertification online.

By modernizing and digitizing the process – required by HUD for federal funding and cumbersome to complete on paper – NYCHA has streamlined the experience for both employees and residents.

Residents have fewer questions to answer, an easier form to complete, 24/7 access for viewing status and case information, and need less time to complete future recertifications.

“Our residents deserve a modern, efficient landlord, and technology overhauls – including online  recertifications – are critical to better serving residents,” explained General Manager Michael Kelly. “We were committed to rolling out the online recertification process for all residents by September 1 because it’s an important step toward achieving our NextGen NYCHA goal to become a better landlord.”

“NextGen is a real plan to change the way we do business and improve customer service,” added Senior Vice President for Operations Brian Clarke. “Implementing the online recertification process was an important step which allows our residents to save time while also creating a secure digital record.”

Development staff was trained to help residents recertify online. To raise awareness about this improved process, NYCHA launched “NextGen Recert Month” in September, which features a variety of outreach events, including training for seniors, a Facebook Live Q&A session, flyers, robocalls, and a social medial campaign.

Residents can still recertify by paper, if they desire. However, there are numerous ways they can recertify online:

  • On a laptop, smartphone, or tablet;
  • At the Self-Serve Kiosk in every property management office;
  • Using a computer on one of NYCHA’s Digital Vans; or
  • On any computer with internet access.
