Providing Excellent Service to Residents
We’re periodically featuring the hardworking staff members who provide excellent service to residents. Learn more about how we’re connecting residents to opportunity through their perspective. In this installment, meet Erica DeJesus, Community Coordinator in the Resident Engagement Department:
“I started at NYCHA nine years ago as a community center director in the Bronx. When I moved to the Resident Engagement Department, I developed and implemented strategies to effectively engage resident associations (RA) in the North Bronx. I also facilitated RA cluster meetings and elections and maintained the relevant data and records.
“In my current role, I manage Family Days for all of NYCHA’s resident associations. That involves organizing Family Day orientations for RA members; processing application packages from RAs (including funding requests); and coordinating with property management, the Office of Safety & Security, and the NYPD to ensure successful Family Days. This season, I helped organize 183 Family Days and distribute over $650,000 in tenant participation activity funding to RAs for the Family Days. I also helped distribute about $430,000 in City Council funding to RAs this year for Family Days and back-to-school events.
“I enjoy interacting with residents, which makes my job very rewarding. Residents tell me how much they appreciate the open communication and the time I take to listen and assist in whatever way I can. I am committed to creating meaningful change for our residents by building on NYCHA’s principles of partnership and respect.”
