NYCHA NAACP Honors Women Leading Change

NYCHA’s NAACP Branch celebrated Women’s History Month with an evening honoring women who exemplify this year’s theme, “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future.”  

The event was held on April 12 in the 90 Church Street Ceremonial Room. Remarks were given by Lynn Spivey, President of the NAACP NYCHA Branch; Yvette Andino, Vice President for Employee Engagement; Hildra Rodgers, New York State NAACP Regional Director, Women in NAACP (WIN); and Machelle Sweeting, Acting Justice of the New York State Supreme Court and a former NYCHA resident. The keynote speech was given by Nicole Caesar-Mitchell, Founder and CEO of Yes Please. 

The honorees included NYCHA employees, residents, union representatives, and community advocates who are women that lead, inspire, and drive progress for a better tomorrow. 

This year’s NYCHA honorees included: 

  • Leticia Barboza, Photographer, Department of Communications  
  • Dawn Carter, Superintendent and Heating Instructor, Heating Management Services Department  
  • Mary Glenn, Elevator Administrator, Elevator Services and Repair Department  
  • Sharon Kistoo, Executive Assistant to the Chief Information Officer, Office of the Chief Information Officer  
  • Tomasine Reyes, President, Woodside Houses Resident Association  
  • Erenisse Tavarez, Vice President for Public Housing Operations, Manhattan
  • Eva Trimble, Chief Operating Officer
