NYCHA Hispanic Society’s Coat Drive

On January 8, at its monthly meeting, the Hispanic Society of NYCHA kicked off the new year with a kids’ coat drive. The group, which is open to employees regardless of background, celebrates Hispanic culture and language. “We want to create positive energy,” said Caretaker Nancy Ramos, the organization’s president. “Today we do that by getting kids something warm to wear.”

Group members discussed other ways to contribute to the community in the coming year, including canned food and toy drives, a Thanksgiving dinner, and networking events.

“Our members come from all over NYCHA,” Ms. Ramos said. “But wherever we are and whatever titles we have, we want to help change the culture of NYCHA to make it better for everyone.”
