Nominate Yourself or a Colleague for a Safety Award
In celebration of National Safety Month, which is every June, NYCHA is re-launching the Safety Awards Program. This year’s theme is “Safety Starts with Me,” which reaffirms the Authority’s commitment to preventing workplace injuries and to promoting workplace safety awareness.
NYCHA’s Environmental Health and Safety Department (EHS) is accepting nominations for the NYCHA Safety Awards Program through July 15. This program is an opportunity to recognize the contributions of NYCHA employees who have made an effort to create, practice, and uphold healthy and safe work environments. NYCHA will recognize our colleagues who have gone above and beyond to demonstrate their commitment to safety. EHS will evaluate nominations based upon the following criteria:
Safety Leadership Award
- A visible leader of change who motivates employees and develops team members to work safely and has a tangible track record to show it
- Works towards continuous improvement of health and safety in the workplace (e.g., activities or actions taken to prevent injuries or illnesses, prevention of unsafe conditions or practices)
- Promotes a work and service environment that is respectful, collegial, and supportive
- Promotes best practices and coaches others regarding safety protocols
- Communicates frequently and effectively up, down, and across the organization about safety
- Is action-oriented (walks the talk) and accountable; holds others accountable for safety
Safety Innovation Award
- Implemented innovative or unique practices or solutions to improve safety in the workplace
- Creates a way of implementing the Authority’s safety principles; articulates the vision of what safety excellence looks like and demonstrates this in an inspiring way
- Develops new or more efficient ways of working safely while complying with established/mandated safety procedures
- Leverages any level/type of technology that benefits employees and supervisors to work safely
