New Development-based Schedules for Janitorial Staff

Spring weather is on the way, and so are cleaner grounds and buildings!

As a result of consistent feedback from residents and staff, along with data from multiple evaluations, NYCHA is ending the Alternative Work Schedule (AWS) program for Caretakers and Supervisors and adopting a new, flexible model for staff scheduling. This will give each development the freedom and flexibility to maintain clean conditions and address residents’ concerns.

By early May, most Caretakers at all developments will return to a traditional weekday work schedule and be assigned to specific buildings that they are responsible for cleaning each workday and keeping in good condition. NYCHA is also changing Supervisors’ shifts so that site staff can more effectively communicate and collaborate on how to address each development’s unique needs. While most Caretaker staff will be on-site at least five days a week, buildings will be cleaned and maintained seven days a week.

In addition, each site will have the freedom to perform site-wide tasks (such as garbage collection) when they are needed most, including outside of the standard workday.

We encourage you to continue reporting issues in common areas when you see them through the MyNYCHA app or website (www.nyc.gov/mynycha) or by calling the Customer Contact Center at (718) 707-7771. Your input helps us determine how we can adapt to best meet your needs. We also urge you to speak with your property managers and resident association leaders about any concerns you have about your development.

NYCHA is committed to improving service for our residents and ensuring that our developments are safe and clean. Thank you for your partnership in this effort!
