Message from Interim Chair & CEO Kathryn Garcia
Dear Colleagues,
I am excited to introduce myself as NYCHA’s new Interim Chair & CEO.
For years, I have worked on behalf of my fellow New Yorkers to ensure they receive the best essential services from the City. As Senior Advisor for Citywide Lead Prevention, I led the development and launch of LeadFreeNYC, a comprehensive plan to eliminate childhood lead exposure in the city. As Sanitation Commissioner, I helped modernize the City’s snow response and helped develop the plan to send zero waste to landfills by 2030.
I bring this same commitment to NYCHA. About 400,000 New Yorkers live at NYCHA developments and depend on the Authority to provide them with warm and safe homes. My top priority is to help make life better for them.
Over the last year, there has been real progress made to improve services for residents, thanks largely in part to the leadership of General Manager Vito Mustaciuolo. But there’s a lot more work to be done. I plan to work closely with Vito to keep the momentum going and tackle the most important resident concerns, including heat, hot water, mold, pests, lead, and elevators.
I look forward to meeting you on my visits to NYCHA developments across the city and to working together to better serve our residents.
Sincerely,
Kathryn Garcia
Interim Chair & CEO
