Isaacs Center Virtual Black History Month Celebration

On February 19, the Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center marked Black History Month with a virtual celebration that featured music, poetry, speeches, and dance performances by staff, center participants, and special guests. Music included the singing of the Black National Anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” renditions of Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” and Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On.” Singer-songwriter Alicia Waller of Alicia Waller & The Excursion shared the music video for her song, “Soul.” Ballerina Lindsey Donnell from the Dance Theatre of Harlem shared two ballet performances. Remarks about the importance of Black History Month were given by Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, New York City Council Member Ben Kallos, and Isaacs Center Director Greg Morris.
