Reporting Gas Leaks or Gas Equipment Malfunctions

Reporting Gas Leaks or Gas Equipment Malfunctions

All NYCHA employees must report any gas odor as follows:

During NORMAL NYCHA business hours, contact 911 and all three parties below:

  • Step 1: Call 911
  • Step 2: After calling 911, call the gas service provider ConEd
  • at 1-800-752-6633 or National Grid at 1-718-643-4050
  • Step 3: Property Maintenance Supervisor
  • Step 4: Property Manager

OUTSIDE NYCHA business hours, contact 911 and both parties below:

  • Step 1: Call 911
  • Step 2: After calling 911, call the gas service provider ConEd
  • at 1-800-752-6633 or National Grid at 1-718-643-4050
  • Step 3: Emergency Management & Services Department at 718‐707‐5900

Next Step: Once the gas leak is reported, the Property Manager (PM) or Emergency Management & Services Department (EMSD) will create a gas outage work order within Maximo.

Note: If the employee has the experience to identify the source of the leak and shut down the appropriate gas lines(s), they can perform that task before reporting the leak.
