Celebrating Thanksgiving at NYCHA

Thanksgiving is a time of reflection and togetherness. This year, the NYCHA community united to ensure that NYCHA residents had Thanksgiving meals with their families, friends, and communities. From turkey giveaways to gift cards and groceries, the outpouring of support from NYCHA resident associations, businesses and community organizations, and elected officials kicked off the season of giving at NYCHA developments across the city.

At the Bronx River Community Center on November 20, New York Giants player Saquon Barkley and his non-profit organization, The Michael Ann & Saquon Barkley Hope Foundation, distributed approximately 300 turkeys to residents and community members. Joining Mr. Barkley to distribute turkeys at the event were State Senator Luis Sepulveda, State Assembly Member Kenny Burgos, Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson, Bronx River Houses Resident Association President Norma Saunders, and others.

At Polo Grounds Towers, Allen Lazard of the New York Jets joined the community dinner and turkey giveaways for residents hosted by entities like the Mayor’s Office, NYPD, and Police Athletic League.
