Affirming Our Commitment to Serving the NYCHA Community

Dear Colleagues,

As many of you know, the federal government recently issued, and continues to issue and update, Presidential Executive Orders and related guidance that may have implications for the granting and use of federal funding. NYCHA is working tirelessly with its city, state, and federal partners to understand the potential impact of this federal directive.

NYCHA receives significant funding from the federal government that is used to serve more than 500,000 NYCHA residents and voucher holders on a daily basis. Every year, NYCHA receives over $1.5 billion in federal operating subsidy, over $750 million in federal capital grant funding, and over $2.1 billion in federal Section 8 funding.

Like many organizations in New York State and across the nation, NYCHA is analyzing how this may affect our community, and is prepared to address all scenarios that the Authority may face.

As we await additional details and clarity, we will continue to prioritize the delivery of services to NYCHA residents, maintaining our core focus on the pillars of the HUD agreement and our ongoing work to transform the Authority.

The residents, staff, and partners who comprise our NYCHA community have always been a beacon during difficult times. For nearly a century – and through numerous hardships – we have demonstrated time and again that our mission to provide and preserve public housing for hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers remains paramount. Resident safety, security, and continuity of services remain NYCHA’s top priority.

I am proud to call you my partners – together, we will navigate any challenges at hand.

Sincerely,

Lisa Bova-Hiatt

Chief Executive Officer
