Recognizing James Secreto, NYPD Housing Bureau Chief
At the December NYCHA Board meeting, General Manager Vito Mustaciuolo announced the retirement of James Secreto, Chief of the NYPD’s Housing Bureau, whose 2,100 officers patrol NYCHA developments. Following the announcement, Chair Greg Russ presented Chief Secreto with a plaque recognizing his work in maintaining safety at our developments.
Chief Secreto began his NYPD career in November 1979 at the 25th Precinct in East Harlem. Over the next 40 years, he served in progressively responsible positions, rising to the rank of Chief of Housing in 2014. However, his relationship with NYCHA began much earlier, Chief Gerald Nelson, NYCHA’s Vice President for Public Safety, explained: “He grew up in Albany Houses in Crown Heights. That makes him a child of NYCHA, someone who has a personal stake in keeping NYCHA safe. We wish him well as he moves on to his next great adventure.”
