Raising Awareness on Gender-Based Violence
NYCHA’s Family Partnerships and Resident Engagement Departments hosted employee events for “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence,” which ran from November 25 to December 10, 2019, to raise awareness about gender-based violence and encourage discussions and activism on ways to eliminate it. Family Partnerships hosted a documentary screening and discussion on “The Rape of Recy Taylor,” attended by 45 employees. The Department also displayed relevant art at 90 Church Street throughout the duration of the campaign. Thirty-five employees attended Resident Engagement’s event, an original intergenerational play performed by members of NYCHA’s Senior Champions that addressed elder abuse and financial exploitation. There was also a guest presentation from Geriatric Mental Health Specialist Chrystelle Ade Touvoli from the Visiting Nurse Service of New York.
The “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” NYC campaign was led by the Commission on Gender Equity and the Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence.
