NYCHA’s HAA Celebrates NYC’s Haitian Flag Day May 20
NYCHA’s Haitian American Association (HAA) joined the NYC Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs for a Haitian Flag Raising ceremony on May 20 at Bowling Green Park in downtown Manhattan. It was a beautiful and happy day with many attendees waving flags and wearing Haiti’s (and the USA’s) national colors blanc, bleu et rouge. The event was attended by Haiti’s Consul General in New York and a wide range of other Haitian American leaders from the non-profit, education, and business worlds.

The event served as a reminder of the continuing contributions that Haitian Americans have made and continue to make in their U.S. communities, both here in New York City and all around the United States. The HAA is a proud community who care deeply about their heritage both as Haitians and as Americans. As HAA President Sybille Louis put it: “We have a lot more in common than what the forces of division would have the world believe!” NYCHA’s Haitian American Association (HAA) was officially represented at the May 20th event by Ms. Louis and HAA member Shilda Albert.
