NYCHA Youth Learn Baseball with the Pros
On what was a beautiful day for baseball, 135 young NYCHA residents from 16 developments learned techniques from experts at the first-ever “Heart of the City Baseball” training program and tournament held on April 13 at Sternberg Park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
The children, ages 8 to 14, participated in free training clinics on hitting, pitching, throwing, catching, and more. Former Major League Baseball players Dave Gallagher and Jeffrey Hammonds coached and provided inspiration on the game. All clinic participants received free gear, including baseball gloves and T-shirts, to help them continue to foster a love of baseball.
The Heart of the City Baseball initiative aims to educate children about the game of baseball, healthy habits, and meaningful hobbies. The event was organized by RDC Development in partnership with the Major League Baseball Players Trust, NYCHA, HDMH Rawlings, and the Williamsburg Athletics League.
