NYCHA Opens “Comp Mod” Resident Engagement Office at Todt Hill Houses Ahead of Renovations
NYCHA’s Comprehensive Modernization (Comp Mod) team has opened the first-of-its-kind resident engagement office at Todt Hill Houses on Staten Island.
Comp Mod oversees and utilizes capital funding to deliver comprehensive apartment and building rehabilitation focused on abating mold, lead, and asbestos; kitchen and bathroom renovations; and elevator replacement. This streamlined renovation approach will bring improved quality of life to residents while reducing construction costs and limiting the inconvenience to residents.
Todt Hills Houses and Harlem’s St. Nicholas Houses were selected as the first developments to be renovated under the Comp Mod initiative based in part on their major repair needs. The final scope of work, which is being guided by resident input, will be confirmed later this year.
The grand opening on February 1 of the Todt Hill Comp Mod resident engagement office marks a major milestone ahead of the planned large-scale renovations at the development, which are expected to begin in 2024.
“I love, love, love the engagement office!” said Doreen Williams, Tenant Association President of Todt Hill Houses. “I can now direct residents to meet with Comp Mod staff in the comfort of their home. This feels like a true partnership, and that the work NYCHA said they are going to do is really happening!”
“NYCHA has always prioritized resident engagement at our Comp Mod locations and over the past year, we’ve held community presentations, led visioning workshops with residents, attended tenant association meetings, met with elected officials, and participated in senior and Family Day events,” said Michele Moore, NYCHA’s Director of Comprehensive Modernization. “With the grand opening of the Todt Hill engagement office on-site, we hope to reach even more residents by establishing a central point of contact in an area they are comfortable in to learn from Comp Mod staff directly – even if they cannot make it to an evening meeting or community event. Our weekend and extended office hours will ensure work and life schedules do not prevent residents from learning about the exciting investments to improve the quality of life and living conditions at Todt Hill Houses.”
The engagement office, located in the property management office, will host a team from NYCHA that will answer questions residents may have about the Comp Mod program and provide them with regular updates.
The Todt Hill engagement office is open to all residents on Tuesdays and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on every third Saturday of the month from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Walk-ins are permitted on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, though appointments are encouraged and can be scheduled by calling the Comp Mod hotline at 212-306-6768.
