January Saturday Work Order Blitz Results
During the month of January, NYCHA closed nearly 2,345 maintenance work orders at developments across the city as part of its Saturday work order blitz initiative, a program launched in December 2018 to tackle the work order repair backlog.
NYCHA developments have limited staffing during weekends; however, developments included in the Saturday blitz receive regular and extra staff on site from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Housing Assistants are also at management offices to help residents with their annual income recertifications. In January, Housing Assistants helped residents complete almost 460 annual recertifications.
“Our hardworking and dedicated staff have completed 5,100 work order repairs and 930 annual recertifications as part of our successful Saturday work blitz initiative. While this is a step in the right direction, the Authority is not taking a break and will be out across the city again this weekend,” said General Manager Vito Mustaciuolo. The total work order repair and annual recertification numbers cover Saturday blitzes completed through February 2.
Saturday blitzes were held on January 12, 19, and 26 at the following developments:
- Brooklyn: Albany Houses, Bay View Houses, Red Hook West Houses, and Surfside Gardens
- Bronx: St. Mary’s Park Houses, Morrisania Air Rights/Jackson Houses, Sotomayor Houses, Webster Houses, and Marble Hill Houses
- Manhattan: Wagner Houses, Gompers Houses, Washington Houses, and Jefferson Houses
- Queens: South Jamaica Houses, Queensbridge South Houses, and Hammel Consolidated
The Saturday blitz initiative and the expansion of NYCHA Cares – a $20 million initiative funded by Mayor Bill de Blasio’s administration to tackle the skilled trades backlogs – make up major components of NYCHA 2.0, a plan to ensure quality affordable housing for all NYCHA residents.
