It’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time when we can all acknowledge and stand in solidarity with those affected by domestic violence.

Domestic violence occurs in every part of our city, among all races, cultures, genders, or religions. It can happen to anyone regardless of age, sexual orientation, or any other characteristics or attributes. It is essential that we try our best to maintain a safe and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and heard.

In recognition of domestic violence awareness month, and in collaboration with the NYC Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence, Thursday, October 19 is NYC Go Purple Day.

To show your support, you can:

  • Wear purple on October 19, and encourage your colleagues to do the same
  • Post pictures on social media using hashtags such as #DVAM2023, #AwarenessHelpHope, or #NYCGoPurple
  • Attend one of many events listed at nyc.gov/endgbv

Resources for additional support:

Remember that the most crucial aspect of showing support is creating a compassionate and understanding atmosphere where victims of domestic violence are encouraged to speak up and to seek help.
