Congratulations to Sideya Sherman!

Dear Colleagues,

We are proud to announce that Sideya Sherman, NYCHA’s Executive Vice President for Community Engagement & Partnerships (CEP), has been named the Executive Director of the City’s Taskforce on Racial Inclusion and Equity. The Taskforce, which is co-chaired by First Lady Chirlane McCray, Deputy Mayor J. Phillip Thompson, and Deputy Mayor Dr. Raul Perea-Henze, seeks to make sure that COVID-19 response and recovery efforts are fair and equitable in the city’s hardest-hit communities, where communities of color have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic. The Taskforce is engaging the community to develop long-term strategies that support community health, safety, and opportunity.

One of the Taskforce’s recently announced initiatives involves bringing broadband internet to 600,000 underserved New Yorkers, including 200,000 NYCHA residents, over the next 18 months. The historic $157 million investment from the City will create a path to NYCHA-wide implementation and universal broadband across New York City, along with job opportunities for installing and operating the network infrastructure. COVID-19 has highlighted the importance of connectivity, including for access to health and safety information and educational and job opportunities, and we’re pleased that NYCHA families will benefit from this work.

Please join us in congratulating Sideya. While she’s on assignment with the City for this very important work, she will continue supporting the efforts of CEP and its senior leadership team.

Sincerely,

Greg Russ, Chair & Chief Executive Officer
