Interim CEO Lisa Bova-Hiatt Answers Your Questions
Every month, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NYCHA will respond to questions from staff on topics such as operations, the future of the agency, and how we’re overcoming everyday challenges. Have a question for the CEO? Send it to AsktheCEO@nycha.nyc.gov and check back here to see if it was selected to be answered. Please be advised that featured questions will be published with the names of the employees who submitted them. Here is the selection for December:
From James Parziale, Web Content Manager in the Department of Communications: “Beyond our usual work, how can employees invest more into, and better support, the NYCHA community?”
Interim CEO Lisa Bova-Hiatt: “Thank you for your commitment, Mr. Parziale. Preservation programs like the NYC Public Housing Preservation Trust and PACT are the best and most powerful way to invest in our buildings for the long term – they bring billions of dollars of comprehensive repairs to residents’ homes. So I would encourage you to learn more about these initiatives and help spread the word about their value. The Authority’s “Change Network” is a good place to get started – it’s a group of dedicated volunteers who help make sure their colleagues are up to date on the latest transformation efforts at NYCHA. Fundamentally, I believe that investing in the NYCHA community means investing in our employees. To that end, we recently launched a Coaching & Mentoring Leadership Academy, which will provide eligible employees with intensive training, one-on-one mentoring, and networking opportunities to empower their career growth at the Authority. Likewise, the Learning and Development team offers trainings that can help staff excel in their work and advance in their careers, while our Employee Engagement Department helps promote a workplace where employees are empowered and have high morale. We also publicize opportunities for employees to earn scholarships or awards from the City, such as the Mayor’s Graduate Scholarship Program. When we support each other, we move forward together as a more effective team.
The Fund for Public Housing, a non-profit that works to support NYCHA and its residents, is another way to get more involved. Thank you, again, for being part of this critical work.”
